The IEEE Biometrics Council is pleased to announce its newly elected members of the Executive Committee.

Maria De Marsico
Vice President Conferences 2027-2028

Maria De Marsico

Maria De Marsico is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science at Sapienza University of Rome. Her research interests focus on biometric systems and multimodal interaction, and recently on the cooperation of these two fields in supporting biometric interaction in smart ambient. She is co-Editor in Chief for Pattern Recognition Letters, Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition and Associate Editor for IEEE Transaction on Biometrics, Behavior, and Identity Science. She is Program Chair since 2013 of the International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods. She has published more than 200 papers in top-ranked international journals and international conferences, and has been member of the Organizing Committee as well as of several Program Committees in International Conferences in Biometrics, Pattern Recognition and Human-Computer Interaction. In 2026, she has been Program co-Chair for ICPR 2026 and IWBF 2026 (14th International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics).

Regarding the service for IEEE Biometric Council, she has been program co-Chair for IJCB 2021, Doctoral Consortium Chair for IJCB 2020 and for IJCB 2023, and Special Session co-Chair for IJCB 2026. She has been Area Editor of IEEE Biometrics Compendium from 2012 to 2019, member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Biometrics Newsletter from 2015 to 2018, and Editor in Chief of the same newsletter from 2018 to 2022. Starting from 2020, she is Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior, and Identity Science. She has been an active reviewer for all editions of IJCB and FG, and has been awarded with the Best Reviewer Award at IJCB 2014, IJCB 2020, and FG 2024.

Davide Maltoni
Vice President Publications 2027-2028

Davide Maltoni is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Bologna and Vice Director of the Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. His research interests include computer vision, machine learning, computational neuroscience, and biometric systems, with particular emphasis on fingerprint and face recognition, biometric performance evaluation, face morphing attacks, and continual learning. He is co-founder and co-director of the Biometric Systems Laboratory (BioLab), internationally recognized for its research in biometrics. His contributions include the development of SFinGe for synthetic fingerprint generation, the organization of the Fingerprint Verification Competitions (FVC), and pioneering work on face morphing and face demorphing. He is co-author of the Handbook of Fingerprint Recognition, whose first edition received the Association of American Publishers PSP Award for the best monograph in Computer Science. In the field of continual learning, he contributed to the development of widely used benchmarks, algorithms, and tools, including CORe50 and Avalanche, and co-founded the ContinualAI research organization. He has coordinated the University of Bologna unit in several European research projects and has served as Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. He was elected IAPR Fellow in 2010, received the IAPR Senior Biometrics Investigator Award in 2024, and was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2025.

Congratulations to the winners!
