In accordance with the Bylaws, IEEE Biometrics Council Past President Nasir Memon, in his capacity as Chair of the Councils’ Nominations Committee, invites nominations for the IEEE Biometrics Council Officer position of Vice President-Publications for the term 1 January 2027 – 31 December 2028, and the position of Vice President-Conferences for the term 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028.

Call for Nominations – Vice President (Publications)

Position Description
The Vice President (Publications) is an Executive Committee (ExCom) member of the IEEE Biometrics Council. He/she chairs the Publications Board and shall act as a liaison to the ExCom for the Councils’ transaction, newsletter, website, and other publications. The Vice President (Publications) is responsible for the oversight of council publications activities; the identification and appointment (with the advice and consent of the Executive Committee) of Editors-in-Chief for the council periodical journal and newsletter; management of the activities of the Editors-in-Chief; drafting strategic and long-term plans for the council’s publications; oversight of financial matters pertaining to the council’s publications such as page budgets; oversight of the councils online manuscript submission interface; management of online and electronic publication initiatives; responsible for the creation of the TAB Five-Year Publications Review document; assist in preparing of new periodical and publications/products proposals; represents the council on the IEEE Panel of Editors; and represent the council at IEEE meetings or meetings of other organizations for publication matters or as requested by the Councils President.

In summary, the Vice President (Publications) has the direct overall responsibilities for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the council’s transaction, newsletter, and other publications, and reports to the President. Position Criteria
The Vice President (Publications) should have served the Editorial Board or in an equivalent management capacity for an archival-quality journal. Candidates must possess a record of significant technical achievement and some recent management experience and must hold the IEEE grade of Senior Member or higher. They must be, at the time of nomination and must remain throughout the term of service, members in good standing of IEEE and of the IEEE Biometrics Council.

Term
The term for Vice President (Publications) is two years.

Time Commitment
VP (Publication) regularly joins monthly online ExCom meeting which generally lasts for one hour. He/She also travels to participate in the annual Advisory Committee meeting which is generally held in conjunction with the BTAS or IJCB. To summarize, the time required for the position of Vice President (Publications) is roughly 3-4 hours per week.

Election Process
The IEEE Biometrics Council Advisory Committee (AdCom) members vote and elect Vice President (Publications).

The Vice President (Conferences) is responsible for the oversight of councils meetings and conferences; solicitation and evaluation of conference proposals (with the advice of the Conference Committee); drafting strategic and long-term plans for the council’s conferences and meetings; oversight of financial matters pertaining to the councils financially sponsored conferences; responsible for the creation of the councils five-year conferences review document; and represent the council at IEEE meetings or meetings of other organizations for conference matters or as requested by the Councils President.
