In accordance with the Bylaws, IEEE Biometrics Council Past President Nasir Memon, in his capacity as Chair of the Councils’ Nominations Committee, invites nominations for the IEEE Biometrics Council Officer position of President-Elect for the term 1 January 2026 – 31 December 2026, Vice President-Finance for the term 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, Vice President-Technical Activities for the term 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, and the position of Vice President-Education for the term 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027.
Call for Nominations – President (Elect)
The President-Elect position automatically succeeds to President (2027-2028). The President-Elect will serve as the Ex-Com member of the biometrics council in 2026 and actively participates in the monthly deliberations relating to the operations of the council. The President-Elect shares overall responsibilities for the development, design, operation, and enhancement of the council’s long-range planning, technical committee reviews, and the council’s finances and reports to the President.The responsibilities of the President (Elect) and President are also detailed in the council bylaws available at https://ieee-biometrics.org/wp-content/uploads/IEEE_Biometrics-Bylaws.pdf .
Position Criteria
Candidates must possess a record of significant technical achievement, and some recent management experience, and must hold the IEEE grade of Senior Member or higher. They must be, at the time of nomination, and must remain throughout the term of service, members in good standing of IEEE and of the IEEE Biometrics Council.
Term
The term for President (Elect) is one year. The position automatically succeeds the position of President, serving two years in that post and then Past President for two years. On becoming the Past President, he/she automatically becomes the Chair of the Nominations Committee.
Time Commitment
President (Elect) regularly joins monthly online ExCom meeting, which generally lasts for one hour. He/She also travels to participate in the annual Advisory Committee meeting, which is generally held in conjunction with the BTAS or IJCB. To summarize, the time required for the position of President (Elect) is roughly 3-4 hours per week.
Election Process
The IEEE Biometrics Council Advisory Committee (AdCom) members vote and elect President (Elect).

Interested candidates should send their nominations through a nominator who is a member of one of the member societies of the IEEE Biometrics Council. Nominations can also be submitted by any AdCom member, or the nominations committee member of the Biometrics Council. The Vice President (Finance) is an Executive Committee (ExCom) member of the IEEE Biometrics Council. He/she chairs the Finance Committee. The Vice President (Finance) is responsible for overseeing all financial matters for the council and including drafting strategic and long-term plans for the council’s finances and budget for new initiatives; oversight of financial matters pertaining to various council activities; responsible for the creation of the council’s five-year financial review document; and represent the council at IEEE meetings or as requested by the Councils President.
