The mission of the IEEE Biometrics Council is to advance, promote and coordinate work in the field of biometric technology and applications throughout IEEE, and to expand IEEE's role in this interdisciplinary field.

The Council's fields of interest include the theory, design, and application of biometrics based on physical and/or behavioral features and traits for identification, verification, and encryption.

The Council promotes technical activities, sponsors technical meetings and sessions, publishes periodicals, promotes educational activities, develops standards, and engages in any other activity defined within its fields of interest.

Technical Committee
The IEEE Biometrics Council’s Technical Committee’s roles and responsibilities include supporting conference paper reviews; reviewing and creating expert web content; reviewing tutorials; supporting award nominations; cooperating with the publications, conferences and education committees; and actively shaping the technical future of biometrics within the IEEE. Education Committee
The Education Committee manages the Distinguished Lecturers Program (DLP); organizes biometric seminars; evaluates scholarship requests from students; facilitates the development of biometric tutorials; and interfaces with other entities to promote biometric education across IEEE as well as society-at-large. The Education Committee is in the process of establishing an MoU with the IEEE Certified Biometrics Professional Program.
